Orient Gallery…My home"
Born in 1977, Jordanian artist Jehad Al Ameri received his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Baghdad University in 2002, a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Yarmouk University followed by a PhD from the University of Granada, Spain. This accomplished artist has exhibited extensively both throughout the Middle East as well as internationally, and his works have been acquired by the permanent collections of cultural institutions in Jordan, Italy, Switzerland and Spain, to name a few. Although Al Ameri’s formal education focused on printmaking and etching, his practice has taken him further down that path, where he excelled and emerged as graphic style artist, skilled at numerous techniques. Experimenting with etching on zinc, wood, lithograph and silkscreen printing, the artist soon found his own artistic voice, taking his painting and graphic style and applying it to oil painting. He creates several layers of varying opacity to construct texture across the surface of his works. In his most recent work, he has included Arabic script and calligraphy, emerging as hidden, interlocked stories. Most of Al Ameri’s art evokes a place, time and spirit, with poetry, history and culture featuring significantly as his inspiration, which is clearly evident in his most recent collection of works that was inspired by his time in Spain.
"My artwork moves through demolition and construction, through deleting and adding, and through retrieving the rituals of those places in my own language." Jehad Al-Ameri
